Rantings and ravings

Rave: Classes started this week for our fall semester. It was good to reconnect with friends and hear how things are going for them.

Rant: It really frustrates me when I'm handed a syllabus that is poorly written, incoherent, and full of bad grammar, poor syntax, and misspelled words which tells me that my papers should be coherent and will be downgraded for bad grammar, poor syntax, and misspelled words.

Rave: Worship was awesome this morning. We had church conference and my congregation showed up in droves and supported the ministries and leadership of our church. God is good!

Rant: It was more than a little stressful not to know what parts of the service I was responsible for and what our District Superintendent would be doing.

Not sure if I agree with everything behind it, but I applaud and enjoy the creativity of it.

The glow

When I was a teenager, I was part of a congregation that regularly practiced giving testimonies. In the worship services, there was frequently a time for the members to stand and share what God was doing in their lives. Listening to those people share was like basking in the glow of the Holy Spirit’s fire. It’s been a while since I experienced that, but I was able to the other evening. I was on the phone with the mother of one of the middle school students in our youth group. She shared that her daughter had told her the other day that she was feeling strange. When her mom asked what she meant, she told her that she’d been praying and that suddenly, like a switch had been flipped, she felt Jesus in the room with her and that sense of the imminent presence of Christ stayed with her. Praise God who gives us the Holy spirit to bear witness with our spirit that we are children of God! Amen
